Long time since I posted to this space! Thought I would share something special for my return! I wanted to have this project ready for Halloween last week, but I guess itโs better late than never!
Iโve been kicking around the idea to create a sort of hybrid of Monster High g1 and g3, with a bit of my own aesthetic flare to the core characters! There are still have a few tweaks I want to make but overall Iโm really happy with them and I hope you guys like them too
This is sort of my “proof of concept” for my “ideal” Monster High doll line – the g1 head / face sculpts combined with the g3 bodies and a slightly more detailed face paint style.
ย I do really love g3 a lot. Obviously Iโm a huge fan of the improved articulation, larger scale, and sturdiness of the bodies. I actually do like the new headsculpts and even prefer the screening style of the eyes! But there is something so beautifully detailed and magical about Lily Martinezโs sculpts. They’re very “bjd meets bratz” in a way, with features that are both delicate and exaggerated.
Everyone got makeup and hair refreshes to make them a bit more glam and I had so much fun getting to work with each of the characters.

Worn for this shoot:
-g1 Ghoulia’s earrings
-Shadow High Karla Choupette’s blouse with a tiny alteration – I replaced the Shadow High branded broach with the necktie on g3 Drac’s stock blouse to make it “hers”
-Vintage Barbie skirt (circa 2005?) I think it’s from the Fashion Fever set that came with a clock?
-Pretty sure her tights are from Bleeding Edge Goths? Possibly Barbie!
-Purse from Fearidescent Skulltimate Secrets Draculaura
-Stock g3 wave 1 Core Draculaura shoes with some paint!
Draculaura’s look was always pretty solid in my mind, though a couple key details changed from the time I started working on her to how she turned out. She is iconic for her Elegant Gothic Lolita inspired aesthetic, and since y2k aesthetic is “in” right now I figured I’d take some notes from Misa Amane.
I think she was originally a Skull Shores Draculaura? Pretty much the entire top part of her head got rerooted with some wonderful, high quality nylon from The Doll Planet (pro tip: Ink Black and Wildflower were near perfect matches to the colors on this particular Draculaura). I originally had my heart set on giving her the iconic, triangle bangs from g3 but her part line just wasn’t cooperating and I’m a too much of a novice hair dresser so I decided to opt for a middle part and choppy, shaggy fringe. She was getting those little half pigtails regardless, though!
I always intended on repainting her lips, but I was initially planning on doing them in a matte black. Once I wiped the factory paint and was reminded of just how cute her lips are, however, I knew I really wanted to just play around with the heart shape of the sculpt and make them super pink, blushy, and glossy. I also blushed her up a whole bunch, gave her eyebrows some texture, and repainted Draculaura’s signature heart shaped beauty mark which was by far the HARDEST thing I’ve ever done faceup wise to get it so tiny and precise.

Worn for this shoot:
-Assorted Monster High earrings, but most prominently Honey Swamp’s tooth earring.
-Bratz jacket – Rock Angelz, possibly?
-Bratz tank top – I think it was from Style It Jade?
-G3 wave one Clawdeen’s stock overalls converted into a destructed miniskirt, and her stock belt painted silver!
-Shadow High Veronica Heels and bag
I knew I wanted to bring out the “ultra glam fashionista” side of Clawdeen’s personality from g1, but with a bit of a punky edge. You may notice that I borrowed some tips from Hextian’s reimagining of g3 Clawdeen!
Pretty sure this particular Clawdeen began as a Gloom Beach Clawdeen. I snagged her head on ebay. As mentioned above, I was planning to do a matte black lip on Draculaura, but once I decided to do a blushy glossed look on Lala I knew if I wanted anyone to have a black lip moment it would have to be Clawdeen because I had other plans for Frankie. As with Draculaura, I added a bit of texture to Clawdeen’s eyebrows, gave her cheeks and ears some blush, and she was good to up.
Once I got her hair washed and combed out I realized it was cut into really lovely layers so I had fun curling it into a bunch of different directions to help them pop.

This Sweet 1600 was another loose doll head I picked up on ebay! They had some glue seepage issues, and a huge chip in their beautiful lip paint. Nothing too unmanageable to restore. I really didn’t change much face wise. Frankie’s lips were plumped up a bit, but painted to match the original vibrant crimson, albeit with three coats of Tamiya gloss, and their brows were given a similar treatment as Lala and Clawdeen to give them some dimension. Frankie also had some blushing done, but in a totally spur of the moment decision I decided to blush them in a deep blue/green tone – it feels a bit more natural to me than a pink blush and it kind of gives them an otherworldly glow so I’m pretty satisfied!
First was the detinseling. It wasn’t too difficult, but there’s this one strand caught in Frankie’s bangs that I just can’t quite get to. I think it kind of works as a sort of a nod to Frankie’s electrical nature though so I’ve decided to let it be. Frankie also had a conspicuous spot in the back where it looked like the factory forgot to add black plugs. I thought a hidden streak of blue would also be a nice way to incorporate some more of the design elements of g3 that I liked into my restyle!
After I gave Frankie a nice wash and deep condition their hair still had a not shape of their original updo so I played around and was able to reconstruct it into a fun, jagged ponytail!
Sharp eyed viewers will notice that Frankie has their neck bolts again despite using a g3 Ghoulia body! This is one mod that I am super proud of, even though it wasn’t as tricky as I anticipated it would be. I basically trimmed the ends from some extra resin screws I casted – always glad to use spare parts – painted them silver, and super glued them in place! Frankie is pretty covered up in this look so you can’t really see but I did give them their signature stitches as well – I’ll take photos to show soon! They do not have the chrome prosthetic leg, but I have a couple ideas for how to give them one, because I actually really love that design element from g3. But that’s an experiment for another day!
Overall this was such a fun project and I’m really hoping to share more photoshoots and restyles with this group! I think they’ll get along great with my other collections. We have fun here.
